Here is a list of the most dangerous cities in United States over 200,000.

1. DETROIT, MICHIGAN

Detroit is among the one of the most dangerous cities with the population over 200,000. Although Detroit continued to remain the dangerous city third time in a row, there is a reduction in crimes by 4 percent. In fact, the number of murders, robberies and rapes reduced. Moreover, it is a good sign that there are downward trending crimes.

1989/100,000 people is a violent crime rate and the murder rate is 44/100,000. Furthermore, the ratio of officer to population is 1:295. The total population of the city is 684,694.

2. MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE

In 2014, the number of crimes increased by 5 percent which it made it come to rank 2. Increase of crimes were not in a particular but in every category of violent crime. But the most increase ones were rapes by 14.5 percent and murders by 13 percent. Furthermore, city had 501 rapes, 140 murders, 3285 robberies and 7473 aggravated assaults.

1741/100,000 people is a violent crime rate and the murder rate is 21/100,000. Moreover, the ratio of officer to population is 1:293. The total population of the city is 654,692.

3. OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA

Oakland was successful enough to step one rank downward due to the reduction in crime by 15 percent. Rape is an exception, otherwise the city saw reduction in every category of crime. But the significant decrease in overall crime rate is due to the less number of robberies. In comparison of 2013, 2014 had 30 percent less robberies that means 1500 less robberies. The overall figures in 2014 are 80 murders, 3481 robberies, 209 rapes and 3140 aggravated assaults.

1685/100,000 people is a violent crime rate and the murder rate is 20/100,000. Moreover, the ratio of officer to population is 1:573. The total population of the city is 409,994.

4. ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI

Inspite 5 percent increase in the crime rate in 2014, the city continues to remain on fourth rank for the second year. Comparing to 2014 to the previous year, the number of crimes increases in every category except rapes. Noticeable increase was found in the figures of murders, 120 in 2013 to 159 in 2014 which increases the murder rate by 32 percent.

1679/100,000 people is a violent crime rate and the murder rate is 50/100,000. The ratio of officer to population is 1:230. The total population of the city is 318,574.

5. BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA

Increasing of the violent crime rate by 18 percent makes this city to move up three spots in its ranking. Coming to the violent crime, it has the highest crime among all the cities. It had a significant increase in the figures of aggravated assaults 1642 in 2013 to 2084 in 2014, increase nearly about 27 percent. Although, increasing aggravated assaults, rape and robbery, there was a noticeable change in murders making it less in number.

1588/100,000 people is a violent crime rate and the murder rate is 25/100,000. The ratio of officer to population is 1:245. The total population of the city is 212,155.

6. MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN

After increase in violent crime in 2014 by 8 percent, it moved up one spot acquiring rank 6. This change occurred due to the increase in aggravated assaults by 10 percent and robberies by 7 percent. On comparing, statics of rape remained same in 2013 and 2014. But a noticeable drop in the numbers of murders to 90 which makes it 13 percent.

1476/100,000 people is a violent crime rate and the murder rate is 15/100,000. The ratio of officer to population is 1:318. The total population of the city is 600,374.
